If visiting the dentist makes you nervous, you are not alone. Anxiety keeps many people from going to the dentist and getting the care they need.
Sedation dentistry or sleep dentistry is a safe way to manage anxiety, nervousness, and increase comfort so you can relax during any dental procedure.
You can relax during your visit even if you experience one or more of the following:
Dr. Goodman is happy to offer her patients two choices of sedation:
When Nitrous Oxide (laughing gas) is inhaled, it helps your body relax while you remain totally conscious. This is the most popular form of sedation for Dr. Goodman's patients that can be used during almost any procedure.
Through this type of sedation you will experience very deep relaxation while still being conscious. Dr. Goodman will provide you with a prescription for an oral medication that is easy to swallow, safe, and low cost. Most adults will receive Halcion (triazolam) that is taken before you arrive at the office for your scheduled dental procedure. When the medication takes effect, you will be able to speak and respond to requests while being very relaxed. Many patients request oral conscious sedation for lengthier procedures. Oral conscious sedation patients make arrangements for a friend or family member to drive them to and from their appointment.
